Friday 30 September was the day: the day of the boat trip that we at the Flexim Foundation were delighted to organise for and together with the Odensehuis.
The Odensehuis is an accessible meeting place for people with early-stage memory problems or dementia and their carers. It provides a space for socialising, activities and support, with the aim of fostering social connections and maintaining quality of life.
Ahead of this special day, a few visitors were given a quick reminder by phone. Around 10.00 am, visitors and carers gathered at the Odensehuis. The atmosphere was immediately cheerful; everyone was clearly looking forward to the outing.
The morning began pleasantly with coffee and tea, accompanied by a genuine Limburg flan brought along by one of the visitors. Afterwards, the coach was ready to take the group to Rotterdam. Everyone was already enjoying themselves on the way: sitting together on the coach, the view of Rotterdam’s neighbourhoods and the memories this evoked led to lovely conversations. As the coach drove through Rotterdam-Zuid, some visitors reminisced about the past. For one couple, the day was already a success at that point.
On arrival at the Euromast, the group disembarked and boarded the boat, with our volunteers from the Flexim Foundation helping where necessary. On board, the visitors were warmly welcomed by the crew with
